IMCA SPRINT CAR GREATS WILL RACE HERE!!

BOBBY GRIM or "Bardahl Bobby" as he was known in his IMCA sprint car champion days. He won four consecutive national title during 1955-56-57-58 in the Hectore Honore Bardahl Offenhauser sprint car- the Black Duece. GRIM moved to USAC and the Indianapolis 500.

Peanuts!Popcorn! Get yer prrrrogrrramssss here!! The Louisiana State Fair Speedway was the setting for many of IMCA's greatest races and in 1930 GUS SCHRADER ( shown above in 1930) was on the cusp of immortality but didn't know it. Beginning in 1933 and extending through 1941 he would win 8 IMCA sprint car titles before losing his life at the Shreveport, La. track in 1941 in his "retirement" race.

Referred to as IMCA's uncrowned champion JIMMY WILBURN was a CSRA Champ but never the IMCA champ. However, he raced against Schrader, Collins, Ben Shaw and Herschel Buchanan-some pretty good racers. Unfairly blamed in Schrader's 1941 fatal accident, WILBURN was nearly killed in a race in Iowa in 1948. He was in a coma for weeks. WILBURN returned to racing but retired a scant year later.

EMORY COLLINS was the only driver who denied Gus Schrader an IMCA title from 1933-1941. COLLINS won the honors in 1938. He returned to IMCA after WWII and won three titles in 1946-47-48.He retired from racing in 1951. COLLINS is shown in his beautifully prepared Offy.

SIG HAUGDAHL poses beside the "Wisconsin Special" that he reputedly drove 180 mph at Daytona Beach. The car is shown after a 1924 exhibition at the Florida State Fair in Tampa. HAUGDAHL was a five time IMCA champ from 1927-32 quite obviously not in this beast of a car. Most racing historians doubt the veracity of the 180 mph claim.

Big BEN MUSICK of Dallas, Texas was an IMCA competitor, CSRA racer and gypsy outlaw sprint car driver in the 1930's. MUSICK also raced under the name of "BILL MORRIS". He raced with a band of Dallas area drivers who made sprint car events throughout the Midwest.
